International Golf Qualifications (IGQ Golf College) is proud to be able to offer a full scholarship to the Golf College for one year. IGQ Golf College is located at Coringa Golf Club and utilises the extensive practice facilities available at this location on McLeans Island Road, (Just down the road from Canterbury Golf headquarters). IGQ Golf College wish to provide support to Canterbury Golf to assist in improving golf within the Canterbury province and want to support a student wishing to improve their golf skills in New Zealand on the Diploma in Golf Coaching or the Diploma in Tournament Golf courses.
This is the inaugural year for a full scholarship which has at a value of $ 30,000 New Zealand for the first year. The scholarship may be awarded for a second subsequent year subject to exemplary results and performance for the first year. Previous partial scholarships were awarded to Sam Ma (Korea) and Eri Miyake (Japan).
In conjunction with the Canterbury Golf Association’s General Manager applications will be invited from residents or non residents who have performed with merit in the Canterbury Tour events and are highly placed on the Vardon Trophy scoring averages. Residents and non residents from outside of the Canterbury Province may also apply, but must provide evidence of competition success and be prepared to relocate to Christchurch.
The Diploma courses are both intensive two year courses of 45 weeks per year of 40 hours per week in a New Zealand Qualifications Authority approved Level 5 course.
In order to be awarded a scholarship in the first year students must have shown above average skills in golf and show the possibility of achieving higher honours in the future. It is a requirement of the scholarship that the successful student must:-
It is generally agreed that it is difficult to predict at what time a scholar will turn potential into performance. For this reason, scholars who fail provincial selection during the calendar year will remain on the programme if they managed to display an acceptable level of commitment and improvement. The scholarships will be awarded by the Principal of IGQ Golf College on the recommendations of the selection panel from IGQ Golf College and Canterbury Golf Incorporated. The selection committee may recommend that no scholarship be awarded if in its opinion there is no candidate of sufficient merit.
